National Doughnut Week: A treat for us, but not for the dog!

It is National Doughnut Week, and while we are all tempted by the sugary, sticky sweetness of these popular pastries, it is important to remember one thing: what’s a treat for us can be trouble for our dogs.

As dog owners, it is only natural to want to share what we love with our 4 legged friends. When it comes to doughnuts and other sugary snacks, saying no is an act of love.

Why doughnuts are dangerous for dogs

Doughnuts might seem harmless, but they contain ingredients that can pose serious health risks to dogs:

  • Sugar overload – dogs aren’t built to process high levels of sugar. Regular intake can lead to obesity, diabetes and dental issues.
  • Toxic ingredients – Chocolate, xylitol (a sweetener), raisins and even certain nuts are toxic to dogs and can be found in many donut recipes.
  • Fried fats – The high fat content in donuts can cause pacriatitis, a painful and potentially dangerous inflammation of the pancreas.
  • Artificial additives – food colourings, preservatives and artificial flavours can irritate your dogs digestive system and weaken long term health.

Healthy choices = happy dogs

Instead of sharing sugary snacks, celebrate your love for your dog with nutritious, natural food that supports their health and happiness. Making better food choices means:

  • Supporting healthy digestion
  • Maintaining a shiny coat and healthy skin
  • Boosting immune function
  • Helping your dog maintain a healthy weight

At The Natural Dog Food Company, we believe nutrition should be as natural as your dog. That is why our foods are made with 100% natural, human grade ingredients, no artificial additives and gently baked to preserve nutrients.

Our Original range and Sensitive (Grain Free) range, offer complete nutrition with no nasties – just goodness.
